Romeo Y Julieta Cigars: Brand Based on the Shakespearean Tragedy
With probably the most beautiful name and story in the entire cigar world, Romeo Y Julieta cigars are one of the leading cigar makers on the market. The legendary brand was created back in 1875 as a result of the partnership between Manin Garcia and Inocencio Alvarez. However, it wasn’t until Jose Rodriguez Fernandez acquired the brand 30 years later, at the very beginning of the 20th century, that their products started to gain popularity and receive recognition from cigar smokers.
Jose was the one who was so passionate about Shakespeare’s most famous play – he even named his horse Julieta and, on one of his trips to Italy, opened a shop in Verona. Not only that – Rodriguez actually included a copy of Juliet’s balcony when building a palazzo in Havana.
You might be thinking: how could a man with such an obsession make his small business so successful? As you see, it only helped Jose become a prominent businessman. Every person knows the tragic story of “Romeo and Juliet,” so the brand name is very sweet and memorable, just like the taste of Romeo Y Julieta Cuban Cigars.
The Dominican Romeo Cigar, for instance, is filled with tobacco from the Dominican Republic and wrapped in Ecuador Habano leaf wrapper, giving you delicate chocolate and leather notes that will leave you in awe of the deliciousness of its taste.
The Dominican Churchill Vintage Cigar at a 48-ring gauge provides you with a smooth, nutty-creamy taste using a blend of Mexican and Dominican tobacco wrapped in Ecuador Connecticut Shade wrapper. There’s one more variation of this cigar, which delivers even more complexity inside caramel-hued Indonesian wrappers.
Don’t be surprised by the Churchill name. Winston Churchill became a huge fan of these Cuban cigars during his visit to Cuba back in 1946. The brand was so proud of having Churchill among their consumers that they named another cigar after him, the Cuban Churchill.
The Cuban Churchill is a mild to medium-bodied blend cigar with a citrusy and almondy flavor. It also has a nice finish with a hint of chocolate. The overall taste of Romeo Y Julieta Churchills is rather complex and creamy but not too overwhelming at the same time.
A few years ago, in 2015, another cigar called Robusto was introduced by Romeo Y Julieta Cigars. These cigars are also known as the Wide Churchills for their famous size of 5 1/8” x 55 each.
